How to Make Your Stress A Lot Less

Living in today hustle-and-bustle society, it can be easy for someone to feel stressed out or anxious. In fact, it has almost become a normalcy for people to be on anti-anxiety medications such as xanax or ativan just to make it through the day. It almost seems as if society as a whole has just simply accepted this stress and anxiety reality as and a part of our everyday lives. It nearly become an epidemic. But I ask you why? Why have we just passively sat back and allowed this stressful energy to take over? No, it is not normal (whatever that even means), and it should not be running our lives like it is.

The good news is that you can be proactive about your stress level and you will be amazed at how simple it really is. After 21 days of doing some of these techniques you will have rewired your brain and it then becomes your way of life. However before trying any of these techniques there is one important step that must be taken. You need to stop what you are doing and right here and right now make the decision that you will no longer accept stress into your life, and really mean it. Say it out loud a few times if that helps.

Set a clear cut intention that you will be at peace and present in each and every beautiful moment. Please do not underestimate the importance of this step because by setting a clear intention you are basically placing an order with the universe. The universe cannot bring you something unless you say what it is that you want, and then so it shall be. Next, use some or all of these techniques and I guarantee you that your stress will be a lot less!

- Laughter. Research shows that laughter can stimulate movement of blood to the heart and lungs. Laughter is believed to increase antibodies to fight sickness, releasing stress fighting hormones.

- Music: Listening to calming music can help to reduce anxiety and relax your muscles. It also releases the endorphins in the body. Therefore, listening to your iPod can be very therapeutic!

- Nature: Go outside or into nature at least once per day, notice the beauty all around you and the simple things like the weather or the noises that you hear. By doing this you take your mind off of whatever is stressing you out at the moment and by focusing on the simple things it helps you to realize that in the grand scheme of life it really not that important.

- Meditation: Mediation is one of the best stress relievers out there. By making meditation a regular part of your schedule, you will feel an overall sense of peace and well being and future stressors will just roll right off your back becoming unable to affect you. Also, doing only a 10 minute meditation is equivalent to taking a 2 hour nap. You do the math!

- Rehydrate: Go get a big cup or a bottle of water. Most of us fail to drink enough water and all of your organs, including your brain, are strongly dependent on water to function properly. It how we are built. If you starve your body of water you will function below your best - and you will get stressed.

- Environment: If you constantly in a stressful environment or around other people who are always stressed out, then it is certainly not going to help your stress levels. Make a conscious effort to only surround yourself with others who have their stress levels under control. Obviously there are some situations in which you do not have a choice in the matter, however if you take those people who you do have a choice with down to a minimum you will almost immediately feel the calming effects throughout your life.

- Yoga: Yoga is an excellent stress relief technique. It involves a series of both moving and stationary poses, combined with deep breathing. The physical and mental benefits of yoga provide a natural counterbalance to stress, and strengthen the relaxation response in your daily life.

- Journal: There is nothing like jotting down all your thoughts, ideas, to do lists and errands (etc.) ON PAPER to empty your mind of excess clutter. Organizing your endless ideas and lists into categories that you can reference later, will instill a sense of calm in you everytime.

- E.F.T.: Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an alternative healing modality that releases a person emotions by tapping in various places on the body while saying positive affirmations. This is a great technique to use when you are in the heat of a stressful moment; it quick, easy, and the results are immediate.
